CPLA is industrially compostable, meaning it can break down into non-toxic components under the right conditions. However, there are concerns regarding the conditions needed for composting. While traditional plastic can take hundreds of years to decompose, CPLA cutlery can break down in just a few months in an industrial composting facility. However, in a landfill environment, the conditions may be less conducive to biodegradation, potentially extending the environmental footprint.
